Water absorbs various minerals as it filters through. These are important for health in drinking water. If the groundwater is heated again, the absorbed calcium carbonates are released again and deposited in pipes, aerators, and heating rods as hard scale.

Lime has preservative properties, for example, over many years, dead organisms can turn into stone through lime and thus give us information about what used to be.

Lime also has the property of being an excellent insulator. Unfortunately, it is precisely this property that in a boiler, kettle, or washing machine means that we use more energy than is really necessary.
